Positional Identity

POSITIONAL IDENTITY

Part 12 of 12 in Train to Reign Series

John 24-26

“I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves Me must follow Me; and where I am, My servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves Me.”

Buddy, fourth grader Miguel’s mixed breed dog, trotted—leash in mouth—to his master. As Miguel snapped this leash on, buddy’s tail wagged happily. Buddy knew that they were going outside to have fun. As long as Buddy is with Miguel, he’s happy, no matter what. Buddy is identified positionally with Miguel.

Now that faithful readers have reached #12 of this Train to Reign series, you are in position to be identified in Christ. The salvation experience is awesome! Believers are sealed with the Holy Spirit, our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life (Ephesians 1:13-14, Revelation 21:27. In baptism, believers are crucified (under water), and raised with Christ (born again, 1 Peter 1:23). God sees you righteous, but salvation isn’t God’s end game for His kids.

The Father desires that we be identified in practice what we are position-ally. Our replacement new-creation life becomes an extension of Jesus Christ. Christ is more than Lord of our lives, He becomes our lives! This is the deepest life experience anyone can ask for—and the only way we can achieve God’s best.

The deep life experience is a journey you take with Jesus. He will strip away everyone and everything on which you depend. He uncovers layers of self-deception, so you’ll see yourself the same way God sees you. Embarrassed, you’ll discard selfishness, self-sufficiency and pride. You’ll learn total dependence on Christ. This is the only way people ever bear fruit.

Whoever chickens out—refusing to go with Jesus on this journey—will become the opening Scripture’s single kernel of wheat. But whoever willingly dies to self, (surrender one’s will—like when Jesus willingly died for us on the cross), will yield an abundance of fruit.

God wants so much more for you than salvation. He has much to give you, and even more that He wants to accomplish through you. Won’t you position yourself to be identified in Christ? The rewards are as awesome as salvation itself!

Take Home Nugget

Miguel and Buddy. You and Jesus. May Buddy’s happy tail wagging mirror your smiling face as you journey with Jesus.

Heavenly Father, This is scary. Help me to overcome my reluctance, and grip Jesus’ hand for a life-changing journey. Amen.
