Hogging a Dream

 HOGGING A DREAM
Kingdom Kids devotions authorize Jesus’ LORDship over our lives.

Philippians 4:12b-13: “I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well-fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
 
“I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” 

            Slurping fudge sickles at the pool, eight-year-old Shakira told classmate, Kodie, “I want to be a COO one day.”   

            “What’s a COO, Shak?” Kodie wondered.

            Shakira instructed, “A COO is a corporate operating officer.  Doesn’t a COO sound cool?  I like being the doer in an organization—not someone who sits at a desk and files away boring papers.”

            Kodie finished her fudge sickle and asked, “Are you ready to get back in the water?”

            God says that kids can grow up to be whatever we choose.  Our dreams have the best chance of coming true when we tell them to Jesus; they won’t if we hog them to ourselves. 

            However, we must work towards realizing our dreams—while our lives pass through many stages.  Check out the lesson linked below to see how dreams flourish.

            After God gives us a dream, He allows us the opportunity to decide whether or not to pursue that dream.  We can imagine what our dream may cost: 1) years working towards it, 2) people who may not last through achieving it, and/or 3) our growing past our initial dream. 

            If tangles prevent our dream’s flowing forward, we may change it or allow God to change us.  Our future selves remember all that God helped us through each decision and every setback.

            After realizing that our dream has finally come true—we admit that life is better than we dreamt it would be!  We admit that our dream could only have bloomed by God’s supernatural power.
 
Take Home Nugget

            Richard Williams had a dream.  Years after he and his wife Oracene began a family, Venus was born.  Richard wondered … could she play tennis?  After Serena was born, Richard taught both of them to play tennis when they were just youngsters.  They often had to duck gunfire in their neighborhood tennis court to survive in Compton, CA.  How often did the girls wish that dad would have hogged his tennis dream to himself?

            But both Venus and Serena shared their dad’s passion for, and are talented at tennis.  Richard waited until their middle teenaged years (as their bones grew) before launching them professionally in the tennis circuits.  

            At one time, they were #1 and #2 in the world—and are still competing today!

Holy Father, give me a dream for my life and empower me to strive towards it.  I’m praying for my awesome future in the name of my LORD Jesus, Amen.
