Dogged Stubbornness

DOGGED STUBBORNNESS

Kingdom Kids devotions authorize Jesus’ LORDship over our lives.

Hebrews 10:21-23:  “and since we have a great priest over the house of God,

“let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised us is faithful.”

Ten-year-old twins Danny and Benjy were baptized as infants.  They learn about Jesus in Sunday school each week, worshiping with their family.  Neither has made a decision to follow Jesus all his life, yet.  Neither has confessed believing in Jesus as LORD of his life, yet.

But they do discuss Jesus and their faith with each other.  “Do you believe that Jesus died on a cross as payment for your sins, Ben?” Danny wanted to know.

“Sure!  Benjy began singing, ‘Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so,’ … While I’m not sure how badly I sin, Jesus has me covered.”

Danny said, “Me, too!”  Watching the neighbors playing in their backyard swimming pool, he voiced an idea, “Why don’t we sneak out tonight and jump into the pool?  I’m sweating.  It’s too hot!”

Benjy wondered, “I wonder if we could block their gate slightly open after they go to bed?”

That night, Danny and Benjy were splashing each other in the water, trying to be quiet.  Suddenly, lights flooded the pool and sirens blared.

Dan and Ben looked at each other.  “Whoops!  We’ve gone too far, Ben.” Danny said.

Both sets of parents ran to the scene.  Danny and Benjy were caught.  They were caught lying and deceiving their parents AND trespassing on the neighbor’s property.

“This is the first time that I wouldn’t blame Jesus if He backs out of His promise to forgive my sins,” Benjy admitted.  Danny nodded his head in agreement.

The younger and less experienced Believers-in-Christ doubt salvation when sin condemns them to their faces.  This trial flavor is another way people’s assurance can be tossed back and forth.  Fortunately, God’s promises what Scripture clearly assures is certain depends on our Father’s dogged stubbornness.

            Not ours.

But, when we face trials and don’t fall away, our faith is proven to be the real deal.  Check out the lesson linked below for God’s dogged stubbornness that keeps our salvation secure.

Cassie likes tests, but Job was tested to way more trials than she wants to face!  Benjy and Danny’s faith in God’s promises waffled when they were caught.  Can you—like our Father—maintain confidence of salvation with dogged stubbornness?
Holy Father, thank You for never lying and filling Your Word with assurances that our salvation is secure.  Amen.
