Sitting at Jesus' Feet

SITTING AT JESUS’ FEET

Kingdom Kids devotions authorize Jesus’ LORDship over our lives.

Isaiah 48:17:  “This is what the LORD says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: ‘I am the LORD your God, Who teaches you what is best for you, Who directs you in the way you should go.’”

“I could listen to you all day!” twelve-year-old Cassie exclaimed.

Cassie’s Uncle Bill thrills his family with stories about playing in the NBA.  The National Basketball Association is a small family.  Less than 900 athletes, coaches, and assistants are spread among 32 teams in the NBA in the USA and Toronto, Canada!
Cassie hopes to play in the WNBA one day.

Mary shares Cassie’s hunger to hear stories, be thrilled by, and learn from someone who knows.  Instead of an Uncle Bill, Jesus Himself dropped in at the home of   Mary and Martha one day.  See the lesson linked below for their interaction.

Martha is much like us, too busy attending business to carve out time to spend being still in God’s presence.  We don’t realize how quickly our energy drains by NOT drawing from Him each day.  Wisdom and timing come from God.  “Burning out” or running on our own strength never comes from God.  Nothing beats His plan for our lives!

Mary is enthralled listening to Jesus.  He teaches truths that no one else knows or talks about.  He talks so gently—so warmly—that Mary feels important.  No one else mattered.

Mary was probably taught to help, and leaving Martha alone to prepare DID bother her.
But, also knowing that Martha is capable eased Mary’s nagging conscience.  Jesus is the glue that pasted Mary’s whole attention to her visitor.  Jesus spoke knowingly about our Father in heaven.  He revealed intimate details that Mary felt honored to hear.  Our Father, Jesus said with authority, totally loves each person unconditionally and without hesitation.  There is nothing or no one who can separate us from our Father’s love.

Mary felt warm and accepted she sat at Jesus’ feet.  Her awesome guest is way closer than she is to her own brother!  Mary barely noticed Martha’s accusing eyes glaring from another room.

Take Home Nugget

Mary absorbed a wealth of benefits sitting at Jesus’ feet.  Jesus always has our best interests (in health, relationships, even money matters) at heart.  Jesus learned by watching the Father, so that we might also learn by watching Him (John 14:9-10).

What surprises and pleases we who sit still and commune with God is how He ministers to us!  Opening up His Word prompts us to beg, “Speak to me, Lord!”

In my stillness at Your feet, LORD, may I learn from You and allow You to care for me—to minister to me.  Amen.
