Prince of Peace

PRINCE OF PEACE

Fifth part of nine in Who is Jesus? Advent series

Isaiah 9:6:  “For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders.  And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Twelve year old Cassie smiled at hearing these words at an Advent service.  Her mood remained happy that week.  Friday, she was smiling for no particular reason.  Her classmate Jeremy asked her what was so funny.

Giggling, Cassie admitted, “I wasn’t laughing, silly.  I was just resting in Jesus.  He’s the ‘Prince of Peace’, you know.”

Jeremy nodded his head.  “I get that!  Don’t we wish that all kids in seventh grade—make that the whole world—would get that?”

Cassie spread her peace, Jesus’ peace, with Jeremy.  Together, they spread Jesus’ peace to everyone they came in contact with that day.  Jesus signed for our peace with His blood, reconciling [REK-on-SILE-ing], or uniting His followers with our heavenly Father.  That’s His peace, folks!

            A smile is so simple.

A smile is contagious.  Try it out and see how far it spreads peace.

Wonderful Counselor is another word-description of Jesus from the opening Scripture.  This, too, is simple.  People worry and stress out over a great many things every day.  Jesus—as Prince of Peace—wants people to “cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7).

Are you confused?  Why not take your questions to Jesus?  Who is a better advisor, or counselor, than God’s Son?   He’s the cure for all problems, addictions, and struggles, because Immanuel (God with us) is always with us!

The secret that prevents most people from living victoriously is to choose Jesus as Lord over our lives.  Those who’ve tried living their own way, often find themselves in a heap of trouble.  How long does it take for people to hand over the reins of their heart to Wonderful Counselor Immanuel?  That’s a decision that may take years to make.  Our Father is patient.  He waits people’s entire lifetimes to claim His Son as Lord and Savior of their lives.  Appointing Jesus Lord ought to be a product of the new creation when people are “born again.”

            I’m just saying.

Just how awesome is Jesus, as the Lamb of God?  Check out the lesson linked below for the last war.  Revelation 17:14 begins, “They [ten kings aligned with the beast] will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because He is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with Him will be His called, chosen, and faithful followers.” Emphasis added, to highlight another word-description of Jesus.

You’re my everything, Jesus!
