Prophet

PROPHET

Third part of nine in Who is Jesus? Advent series

Deuteronomy 18:15:  “The Lord your God will raise up a prophet like me [Moses] from among your own brothers.  You must listen to him.”

Matthew 13:57:  “But Jesus said to them, ‘Only in His hometown and in His own house is a prophet without honor.’”

Life-long Believers-in-Christ often “forget” Scripture passages…until someone reminds them.  Today, I was re-introduced to Matthew 21.  Verse eleven words’ popped.  “The crowd answered, ‘This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.’”

Then in verse fifteen, the chief priests were angry hearing children shouting, “Hosanna to the son of David!”

Wherever Jesus went, there was chaos.  Riding on a donkey in the temple area of Jerusalem, Jesus stirred the children to shout and the priests to grumble.

Isn’t this where You’re supposed to remind me, Holy Spirit?  I think.  As soon as I read the passages, a tickle urged me to include them in this devotion.  When Jesus is my Editor-in-Chief, He calls the shots.  Please nod your head in agreement with me that Jesus is your Lord, too.

            Yes, Jesus is a prophet.

Researching that Jesus is a provider, I found Jesus’ same words from Matthew 13:57 in Mark 6:4.  He was only able to heal a few sick people in Nazareth because of the people’s lack of faith.  But look at Jesus’ miracle with five loaves of bread and two fish:

The traveling preacher went from town to town.  He called the twelve and sent them out two-by-two, giving them authority over evil spirits.  (Mark 6:7-13).  They returned, “reporting to Him all they had done and taught” in verse 30.  Jesus wanted them to get rest.  They didn’t even eat!  But when they put out by boat, people ran ahead of them.  Jesus had compassion on them and began teaching.

            Of course He did!

“Feed them,” He said to His apostles, like it was no big deal.

We all know the story.  Jesus fed five thousand with only a boy’s five loaves and two fish.  And they picked up twelve baskets of broken bread and fish!  Jesus, the compassionate provider!

Take Home Nugget

Anyone who has siblings knows that older kids often stick up for the younger ones.  Jesus stands at the father’s right hand lifting up His followers day and night.  “For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,” 1 Timothy 2:5.

“For this reason [Christ’s blood cleanse consciences from acts leading to death], Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance.” (Hebrews 9:15a).

Thank You, Multitasking Jesus!  You do everything for Believers every day!
