BORN AGAIN FOR
DOMINION
Genesis
1:26: “Then God said, ‘Let us make man
in our own image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea
and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all
the creatures that move along the ground.’”
Government
Building Block devotion showed the smallest building block is people. People are responsible for
self-government. Believers develop self-control
before we have the right to rule over anyone or anything else. Our Father created people in his image on
purpose so we would govern under his Son.
Jesus Himself taught us to pray,
“Your kingdom come.” What He didn’t
mention was that His Father’s kingdom is Jesus reigning over all things. And God’s intends that His other kids rule
under Jesus’ reign.
God’s business is a family affair. But before anyone can be adopted into God’s
family, we must believe in His Son Jesus.
Whoever makes Jesus Lord of their lives, is “born again” into God’s
family as a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Check out twelve year old “born
again” friends in biology class. Cassie
and Jeremy pull up chairs to the lab bench.
Ms. Hester’s safe science fun demands: students wear goggles and now plastic
gloves and rubber aprons.
Cassie exclaimed, “Your fish just
spritzed me with ooze!”
“Duh, why we’re wearing aprons, Cassie,”
Jeremy defended himself. “Sorry…this
isn’t a fish, exactly…”
Cassie giggled. “It’s a jelly fish!”
Jeremy made a face at her. “This is awesome. Look!”
He used tongs to show jelly fish innards. Everyone at the bench quickly drew what
Jeremy displayed.
“I wish we all had our own jelly
fish!” Brian said.
“Class,” Ms. Hester announced, “It’s
time to clean up. Finish your drawings,
dump your waste and wipe up your station now.”
Cassie volunteered, “Sketch your
innards, Jeremy. I’ll clean up here.”
“Thanks, Cassie.”
People don’t realize how often we
rule, take charge, exercise dominion. Ms. Hester clearly reigns biology class. Jeremy took charge for cutting the specimen
open for others to draw. Cassie stepped
up to help Jeremy wrap up class on time.
Taking charge, or exercising
dominion, is natural for some people.
Others assume roles according to their nature. God created us differently from one another. Every person is unique [u-NEEK], or one-of-a-kind. We exercise whatever dominion we think appropriate
in varying circumstances.
Take Home Nugget
Just imagine the dominion we’d
exercise if it weren’t for this fallen world!
After Jesus returns, His brothers and sisters (you and I), will be
thrilled to take dominion over whatever job our Father assigns. Check out the lesson linked below to see the matchless
dominion Jesus exercised.
We humble ourselves before the Father Who
authorizes us to take dominion.
