God Stoops Down

GOD STOOPS DOWN

Psalm 18:35:  “You gave me a shield of victory, and Your right hand sustains me; You stoop down to make me great.”

Meghan’s three-year-old frame reached only thirty-two inches.  Her mom’s hand gripped Meghan’s outstretched arm, whisking her along.  Meghan could only see legs!  Suddenly, her foot stumbled over a stone.  “Waaah!”

Mom stooped down. Peering directly into Meghan’s eyes, she said, “Are you alright, honey?”  It’s not your fault that I’m late.  I’m sorry. …Let’s try this.”  Mommy lifted up Meghan to perch on her hip.

“Oh!”  Meghan spurted.  Much better.  Now Meghan could see heads, stores and even puffy white clouds in the sky.

Our heavenly Father is not above stooping down to get our complete attention, too.  His eyes are always on His kids’ lives.

God watched David run for his life ten years after being anointed king of Israel.  See 1 Samuel chapters 17-30.  God’s “shield of victory” protected David, His right hand sustained David.  David admitted in Psalm 56:12-13: “I am under vows to You, O God; I will present my thank offerings to You.  For You have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.”

David acknowledged God’s involvement in his life.  Have you ever vowed promises to God to get you out of trouble?  David’s life was one of continual thanks, assured of God’s deliverance.  God stooped down in order to lift David up—see lesson, below.

He will do the same thing for you.

Sin makes people afraid of condemnation, so they run away from God.  People recognize that sin separates us from a Holy Father who created us in His image.  Incorrect thinking leads people to doubt that God would forgive us.  How could we ever win God’s favor?  This is when God stoops down and lifts us up.

“Looking down” on a person casts judgment and criticism.  But God doesn’t criticize.  In the most awesome “stooping down,” Jesus left heaven to come to earth as God-made-flesh.  And as if that wasn’t enough, Jesus suffered and died in our place, for OUR sins.  Now, whoever trusts in Jesus as Lord of their lives, can claim His free gifts of forgiveness of sins and salvation to eternal life.

Jesus stooped down that low to make you great!

Holy Father, I pray for the one reading this who has never trusted in Jesus. I pray that you will lift him or her up, helping to trust and believe in the finished work of Christ on the cross.  May they enter into a personal relationship with You. Thank You, Lord Jesus, for having stooped down to make us great!  Praying in Jesus’ name, amen.
