Secret Place

SECRET PLACE

Psalm 91:1: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”

            CRACK!  RUMBLE!
Scared of the thunderstorm, a beagle yelped and dashed straight through the doggie flap into his house.  He dove under the coffee table.
“It’s okay, Buddy.  You’re safe with me.” nine year old Miguel said.  He plucked Buddy up into his arms.  Buddy was whining and shaking.  “Shh, Buddy.  You’re safe now.  Shh.”  Miguel held Buddy close to his chest, rocking him.  After a few minutes, Buddy leaned into Miguel’s face.
Slurp.
Miguel giggled and wiped his chin dry with his shirt sleeve.

Thunderstorms frighten many of God’s creations.  Lightening cracks and rumbling thunder sound threatening.  We feel exposed, vulnerable to power we can’t control.  But, we know the One who is in control!  And He understands our fear.

So, He created a Secret Place.  This is God’s idea.
Our heavenly Father always wants His kids to feel safe.

The Secret Place is divine protection where we can rest safely, in peace.  We can show up whenever we want to, and stay as long as we want.   We find cool, good things hidden there.  Hey, we even find Jesus in the Secret Place!  We don’t have to hope this place exists, we can hang out there anytime we remember Psalm 91.
Just like Buddy, so many people are also afraid of loud noises, and many things we cannot control.  The unknown future and bad news swirling around us is upsetting.  Jesus wants to remind us to focus on Him instead of our troubles.

Some troubles are really serious—life or death serious—fears so overwhelming that the Secret Place beckons you.  That’s why God provided us a Secret Place to flee to.  A sanctuary.  A harbor surrounded by still waters, where fear is far away.  That’s why it’s so important.  Divine protection, peace and healing is our inheritance!
Only those who trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord are welcome in God’s Secret Place.  The very words in Psalm 91 name God!  “Most High” is Elyon.  “Almighty” is Shaddai.   Verse 2 says, “I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I thrust.’”
“Lord” is Yahweh, and “God” is Elohim.

 Take Home Nugget

The last verse in Psalm 91 says, “How long will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”  The Hebrew word for “Salvation” is Yeshua—the actual name of Jesus!  Psalm 91 is all about protection.  And Jesus is the final word.  God’s Spirit points people to Jesus!
When you believe in Jesus, God puts you in the Secret place of salvation because of His Son.

God’s protection from fear is yours in Jesus today!
