GROUNDED IN GOD’S TRUTH
Fifth of seven devotions in World Stage Series
Psalm 25:4-10
Psalm 25:4-5: “Show me Your ways, O Lord, teach me Your
paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my
hope is in You all day long.”
“I
am very proud of you!” Michael’s dad cheered at the dinner table. “Choosing ROTC to enter the Air Force Academy
is very smart, son.”
Dinner
was lively that night because every person in the family shared good news. Dad got his annual raise, mom got hired by
the flower shop, and fifteen year old Michael got his eleventh grade subjects confirmed. Then ten year old Jeremy added, “I got chosen
to play summer football!”
A
couple months ago, their dinner was gloomy.
Dad’s job was unstable and mom lost her realtor job. Both sons wanted to attend expensive football
camps. “Time to reboot, folks,” dad
said. “We’ve gotten away from evening
devotions. God hasn’t abandoned us,” dad
said peering into everyone’s sad eyes.
“We
abandoned Him!"
Then
dad read Job 28:20: “Where does wisdom
come from? Where does understanding
dwell?” He looked at his family before
continuing in verse 28. “And He said to
man, ‘The fear of the lord—that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.’”
Simple
Scriptural truths fill minds and influence behavior of those redeemed in Christ. Daily dosing of God’s Word grounds believers
in His truth. How else could we figure
out God? His ways are eternal. His thoughts are higher and bigger than
ours. So, let’s learn more about Him and
follow God on His terms! For He chooses
to reveal Himself to those who seek Him.
Whoever
obeys God lives confidently because they’re sure that He keeps every promise He
makes. When trouble comes, they don’t
worry or stress out. Quite the
opposite! Followers of God have inner
peace and deep-seated joy because they’re confident that He’s working things
out for their good. A life grounded in
God’s truth is powerful because whoever lives in His Word develops spiritual wisdom. God’s ways become their insight for making
correct choices. They’re level-headed,
sharp and not easily fooled.
God
enables these believers to grow in perception and godliness. They influence others because God trusts
them. He awards people who are grounded
in His truth with greater responsibilities.
He delivers them opportunities to serve in His kingdom in various ways
that are seen on the world stage.

Dad added, “We can send one of you to football
camp. Very sorry that we can’t afford
both.”
Michael
looked at Jeremy before admitting, “I decided to play basketball at the
Academy. Please send Jeremy to football
camp.”
God’s truths deliver
spiritual riches.
