Helping Hand

HELPING HAND

7th of 7 devotions in Labor Day Rest series

Matthew 6:34:  “Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.  Each day has trouble of its own.”

Matthew 11:28-30

Matthew 11:28:  “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

People are planners.  We plan tomorrows months in advance of today in books called “Daily Planners.”   Surely, we don’t want to miss any planned event!

God’s cool with His kids being planners.  But people get wrapped up in our own plans.  When life messes with our plans, Jesus advises us not worry about tomorrow.
But of course—people tend to worry—so Jesus offers us help then, too.  The second scripture reading shows Jesus throwing His arm around our shoulders.  He says, “Don’t get so worked up, I got this!”
You breathe out a sigh, “Thank You!”

Isn’t big brother’s job to help younger kids?
            Yes!

God never intended for His kids to worry and fuss over details of life.  Nothing can wreck your position in God’s family: forgiven and sealed for eternal life.  What could be more important than that?  “Well, when you put it that way,…” I hear you agree.
Jesus understands that wants and needs get mixed up.  That’s why He offers Believers fresh grace every day.  So when tomorrow’s trouble wrinkles your forehead and you want to wring your hands in despair, here comes grace.

            Thank of grace like manna.
Manna was the bread that God rained down from Heaven every day to feed the Israelites.  (Exodus 16:14-16.)  They never had to worry about what they would eat in the desert.  And God promises to provide every need for His kids every day.
The “manna” God daily rains down from heaven—among other things—is His grace: Grace sees us through every trouble.  Titus 2:11 says, “For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.”  (Emphasis mine).  God simply wants His kids to rest in His ability to heal, protect and provide.

            Can you trust God?

Check out 2 Chronicles 20:2-26.  King Jehoshaphat’s enemies surrounded Judah. There was no way Judah could win the battle.  But God said the battle was His to win.  “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord.”  The next day, Judah watched God cause such confusion to the enemy camp that they slaughtered themselves!
Judah simply watched God fight the battle for them, just as He promised.  Surely, you can’t be threatened any worse than King Jehoshaphat!
God wants you to live stress-free. Take Jesus’ helping hand and never worry about tomorrow’s problems.  God’s manna of grace will cover you.

Won’t you take Jesus’ hand and watch Him work out your victory?

What an honor it is to meet you!
My background is a life time of worship, but seriously following Jesus came with age. Spiritual maturity is a leap of faith. Sometimes we don’t know what we’re missing until living on the edge of God’s leading. My life of self sufficiency ended abruptly when losing my job as an analytical chemist after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Now living on the edge of God’s leading has become a way of life that I wouldn’t trade for anything else.
Surrendering one’s will to the Lord can be scary. Why did I wait so long to do it? Diving into an intimate relation with the sovereign God of creation is the most secure position in the universe. Will you share your experience with me? Will you let me give you my testimony? May I introduce you to the Jesus I know?
