SORRY!
3rd of 3 devotions in RSVP series
Luke 14:23-24
“Then the master told his servant, ‘Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that My house will be full. I tell you, not one of those men who were invited will get a taste of My banquet.’”
Who is the master? Who is the servant? The meaning of Jesus’ dinner parable probably blew over the Pharisee’s heads. The master is God the Father. The servant is the Holy Spirit. The Jewish Pharisees and teachers of the law refused Jesus’ invitation to come and “eat at the feast in the kingdom of God.” Believers are sorry for Jewish people’s loss of not believing that Jesus is their Messiah. We pray that the veil be lifted so they accept Jesus Christ as Lord (2 Corinthians 3:14).
The opening Scripture’s phrase, “make them come in,” doesn’t sound like God, does it? He never forces entry into a person’s heart. How are people drawn to Jesus, and RSVP His invitation to eat at the feast with a hearty “Yes?” How will God’s house ever be full of people?
Remember the parable of the Lost Son (Prodigal Son) in Luke 15:11-32? People are reluctant to come to God in the beginning of their lives. The devil tempts people to feel and taste the world’s goodies. “God doesn’t want you have fun,” he lies.
Unfortunately, people have to learn the hard way:
A rich man’s young son requested his share of his dad’s estate. Dad divided everything, to give his son his share. The boy headed out into the world. He lived it up in comfort for a little while. But soon he was broke. He begged for a job so that he might eat. He realized his mistake when he longed for the corn cobs that the pigs ate.
Horrified, a humbled boy heads home. His dad ran to meet him while he was still a long way off. Dad throws his arms around his son. He orders a robe, sandals, a ring, and a feast to be made ready welcoming him home. This paints a real scene that shows our heavenly Father celebrating every time lost people are found and return home. It contrasts eternal life in Christ against eternal death to those who reject Him.
The Father patiently awaits His kids “to come in,” so His house is “made full.” How tender. How lovingly God treats His precious kids!
Take Home Nugget
The Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are sorry for those “thrown outside into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matthew 8:12).
When life shows you the hunger of the beast,
Run to Jesus. Attend His feast!

What an honor it is to meet you!
My background is a life time of worship, but seriously following Jesus came with age. Spiritual maturity is a leap of faith. Sometimes we don’t know what we’re missing until living on the edge of God’s leading.
